though nilus designs is concerned with the exploration of innovative design ideas and strategies, our primary goal is our client's satisfaction. prior to beginning any design, we seek to build a strong and comfortable relationship with our clients. we are not hard edged modernists inflicting our personal agenda on the world. we view the process as a collaboration. whether it be a minimal intervention, an extensive remodel or a completely new structure, our goal is to create spaces that work and reflect our client's needs, wants individual personalities, lifestyles and views on architecture.
completed projects include:
the morla/de matran residence. a remodel of an early 1900's house. the goal was to accentuate the homes strengths while updating the living requirements for contemporary living. main design were opening up the living spaces, a new kitchen. earth below the home was excavated to create a new master bedroom and shower. in addition, previously unused space below the deck was claimed as a new painting studio. (published in metropolitan home, sept/oct 1999. san francisco magazine, feb 2000. design within reach)
vosler/smith residence. extensive remodel of existing 2 bedroom cottage as well as new addition of living areas and a new detached studio. the original cottage was transformed to house the private portions of the home, a master bedroom, the childrenıs room and a guest room. a new addition that doubled the square footage is the new dining room and kitchen as well as the living room which opens out into the rear yard. additionally, a new studio was built in the garden.
ginsberg residence. a remodel of a 1970's era home. the transformation of this dark and heavy building into a light and spacious home incorporated the redesign of every room and level of the existing building. the western portion of the roof was raised and new floor to ceiling windows were installed to capitalize on the the views over golden gate park, across the golden gate bridge to the marin headlands past the point bonita lighthouse to ocean sunsets.

macdonald residence / studio. interior remodel the design goal was to take this raw industrial space and create both a comfortable residential space as well as a fully functioning professional commercial photography studio.
mauro residence / ampersand gallery. addition/remodel. the design was to provide for a home for family as well as to provide space for a private art gallery. (published in san francisco magazine, feb. 2000)
