W.E.T BREATHS: CONSTRUCTION PHASE BEGINS
The construction phase has begun and we are all excited. Before we could start gluing however a lot had to be done. Each edge of each piece was very rough as the CNC machine left “scales” behind. Aesthetically we all liked this aquatic accidental aspect, but for those who utilize W.E.T as a seating device, this may lead to discomfort. The pieces were shaved off with small electric hand sanders, manual sand paper, wire brushes and exacto knives. A long process that creates a beautiful product. With care and precision, a magnificent design can be produced!
Each piece was cleaned, our work area was prepped, and the stacking began...

LET
IT
GLOW
Because each piece was numbered on the film that acted as a protection, we numbered each piece along the top as we cleaned. We used the way we built our study models, to guide us in constructing the real scale model. A 90 degree angle “base” was constructed to make sure W.E.T lays flat once installed on the site. Poles are also used that run through carved out whole in each piece. This allows us to be precise with piecing our puzzle together.
Up to this point, we didn’t know exactly what these layered sheets of polycarbonate would look like once put together because we have only had computer rendering models reference which are never exact model examples. We are so thrilled about how it is coming out. We had to test our LED lights out as well. Looks like the new nighlight of San Francisco Bay is on it’s way!
More updates to come as we count down our days!
