Two days a week, the two light-flooded front rooms of this converted warehouse home in Potrero Hill are used as an art gallery. The owners, two artists/curators, were not interested in a home in the traditional sense. Rather, they were looking for an industrial space where they could live, a cross pollination of their day-to-day life and their love of art. The renovation stayed true to the industrial quality of the space – new elements like a fireplace and kitchen were built with steel and bare wood, picking up on the existing material palette of exposed steel, timber beams, and wood floors. Pure white walls were essential as a backdrop for displaying art, as was ample glazing to bring in an abundance of natural yet diffuse light.
